Why is hardly anybody talking about the importance of supporting a healthy microbiome when we’re planning to start a family?
Science tells us that our gut health, and the balance of microbes in our microbiome, can dramatically impact our chances of falling pregnant, having a healthy pregnancy and birth, and supporting the healthy development of our baby’s gut microbiome (and therefore, future overall health!).
This knowledge allows for an element of empowerment in a situation where men and women can sometimes feel overwhelmed and like they have no control over their future.
Our microbiome is malleable; we can change our diets and lifestyles, and this can have an almost immediate impact on the composition and functioning of our microbiome, with ongoing, positive knock-on effects.
For World Microbiome Day, MothersBabies is celebrating the amazingness of the microbiome, what it can do for us, and what we can do to help support our healthiest microbiome possible.
